The Father Bob Show #38 - Burning Down The Church

download link

Today Father Bob and Michaela continue to mull over the progress of Open Family online. We discuss the death sentence of Saddam Hussein and the Australian public’s reaction in relation to the nature of religion on paper and religion in practice and contemporary TV such as “Jericho” and “Lost”. Bob reflects on almost getting decked by a wedding guest, not saying “Jesus” in public, nearly burning down the church hall, and trying to attract the attention of a congregration by smashing his nose.

    THERE IS NO IDEAL TIME!!!!!!
The ideal time is as long as the show is going and there is a conversation to be had. If that is 5 mins, the ideal time is 5 mins. If it is 2 hours, its 2 hours!

    Keep up the good work.

    Hi Molly,

    What is JMTC?

I guess I was just saying at least 20 minutes to ensure I could chain Bob to the seat long enough to get a conversation out of him. He’s a very busy man, as you see, “there’s not a moment to lose”!

    Thanks for your kind words,

    Michaela.

Great show again guys. I agree, there is no ideal time for a podcast, but I would say 20 minutes minimum. The longer the better though I say :) You’re doing a great job Michaela, and as always you are too Bob. Looking forward to the next show. Cheers, Nathan.

I’m going to put it out there and say that there is an ideal time. Some podcasts start at about 30 minutes and before you know it each episode is an hour and a half. With so much to listen to there just isn’t time. I think a long podcast is good as long as it is planned and isn’t just wasting time.

Fair enough Liam. Bob and I recorded show 39 yesterday, and Bob was so busy that it was hard to get him to sit still. It became more of a ramblecast than a show! We kept it relatively short. I think longer shows are only really warranted when there are issues to address.

I am meeting up with Cameron on Friday and we are going to try and insert some more structure to the podcast.

    Stay tuned!
