The Father Bob Show #49
Bob is being very random today. We discuss his feelings about the last podcast and the “god” argument. We have a long chat about the activities of our various operatives (previously ninjas). The tone you hear indicates where I had to edit out long conversations between Bob and the electrician. Terry Monagle (Bob’s biographer) joins us at the end for a friendly chat.
Bob will appear on 1 vs 100 in April on the Channel 9 network. More details as they become available.
You can now also subscribe to Father Bob’s podcast via email! Just click on the link below and follow the steps. You will get an email each time there is a new show with a link to the mp3.

I hope you win lots of money for the poor Father Bob.
you seem to be a well read and intelligent fellow (when you’re not going on one of your esoteric tangents :P)
You don’t have to worry about tv coverage for your beloved Pies, they’re the big wigs of the competition. They’ll get special attention.
Have pity for the Kangaroos who will only see 9 of their games televised on free to air TV
The AFL has screwed over their less commercially successful clubs.
ps: I’m a west coast supporter… its a good time to be a chardonnay sipper =)

“Ambushed”??? Oh come on. I just asked a simple question! I’m re-listening to the show now.
Me: “Father Bob, what is the justification for the 32.9 million people Yahweh killed in the Bible?”
Bob: “None because it’s not a scientific and reasonable thing.”
Me: “The numbers come out of the bible.”
Bob: “The numbers in the bible are not mathematical numbers. They are legendary numbers, mythological numbers. You can’t read books, you can only read numbers.”
And so on. If I can’t ask a Catholic priest a simple question about God, what is the world coming to???

True, many/most priests are happy to answer quesions about God. However, we are not dealing with any old garden variety priest here. Also, we all know that it wasn’t just a simple question, but also a provocation.
We also all know that Bob has gotten used to little old softie me, who introduces her questions about god very gently.
Me thinks you catch more flies with honey…

Cameron, you did kinda chase after Father Bob with a metaphorical kitchen fork.
It seems to me that this argument is about the difference between religion and spirituality. I would be interested to hear Bob and Cameron’s definition on the two terms.

Hi Tom,
We will definitely answer this one in a Skype Cast so that Bob and Cameron are in their corners, literally!
Cheers, Michaela.

It seems to me that the religion that Cameron is attacking is not the religion that Bob is talking about.
In all respect and good humour, Cameron, it’s easy to create a ’straw man’ of belief or religion that is a throwback to primitive times, and then destroy it with some well-placed arguments. But I don’t think you’ve actually said much about Bob’s definition of religion.
Having said that - love the robust discussion, guys.
